About The Position

SEASPAR is looking for a Site Director for Kids Camp this summer! Hours: Monday-Friday from June 8-July 31; 9am-3pm, plus additional time for planning & weekly meeting Location: Laidlaw Elementary School, 4072 Forest Ave, Western Springs Job Perk: Position receives a complimentary fitness or pool membership for the summer months! Summary: Responsible for program planning, implementation, supervision, and safety of SEASPAR participants, property, equipment, and monies while working in a community-based day camp setting. Supervision of camp counselors.

Requirements

  • High school or college diploma preferred.
  • No formal experience required; minimum two-three years' experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred; working knowledge of disabilities.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Able to perform the key responsibilities independently of others.
  • Availability to commit to assigned work times during the summer season.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement day camp/recreational activities for special populations under the direction of the Day Camp Coordinator.
  • Work with full-time staff, counselors, volunteers, parents, community partners, member entity staff, and individuals with special needs.
  • Adapt activities, rules, equipment and/or supplies as needed to ensure quality participation and the most independent participation possible.
  • Assist with the supervision of and participation in all planned activities.
  • Provide the appropriate attention to participants in all situations.
  • Manage assigned groupings of campers.
  • Interpret and use knowledge of the physical, mental, and medical limitations of participants to the benefit of the program.
  • Be alert and responsive to the health and safety needs of the participants and staff.
  • Implement proper disciplinary techniques. Provide behavior management when necessary.
  • Ensure that the facility site as well as any equipment is properly maintained.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all SEASPAR policies and procedures.
  • Be available to listen to parental concerns. Answer questions on behalf of SEASPAR or refer questions to administrative staff.
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Attend all job-related season orientations, in-services, and workshops as directed by supervisor.
  • Attend all daily/weekly camp meetings with Day Camp Coordinator, Camp Assistants, and counselors.
  • Act as an advocate for the participant when necessary.
  • Be dependable and punctual.
  • Encourage participation and development of friendships with other participants in the program.
  • Gathering, loading, transporting, and setting up equipment if necessary. Loading/unloading and transporting participants in a safe manner.
