About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Youth Recreation Supervisor, the Day Camp Site Director is a part-time position responsible for the direct supervision of program participants, program staff and the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities. The Site Director is required to be on site, supervise staff, be responsible for programs at specific sites, work well with parents, and assist with facility requirements.

Requirements

Individuals 18 years or older, preferably at least 21 who have experience working with children and possess the following: at least two years of a variety of camping, educational, and/or outdoor-environmental education work experience
two years of college course work or experience desirable
A knowledge of age characteristics and appropriate activities for children; ability to supervise staff; maturity, good judgment and leadership ability.
The ability to work with children, parents and staff as well as the ability to act as a direct contact program leader in all facets of the summer camp program.
CPR, First Aid and AED certification is required or willingness to obtain within two weeks
Successful and progressive experience in working with children from age 5 to 12 and/or 2 ½ -6 year olds.
Demonstrate the ability in working with individuals and groups.
Two years of actual work experience will be accepted in lieu of one year in college.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the safety, supervision and organization of campsite
Direct the activities in the camp program, instruct and supervise employees in the performance of assigned duties, plan and direct activities to meet the needs of the children
Know the location of participants and supervise the work of staff, and volunteers at all times
Perform related work as requested by the Youth Program Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor, Hunt Club Facility Manager, Director of Recreation and the Executive Director.
Responsible for the scheduling, staffing, planning, and implementation of field trips, staff meetings, staff training, extended camp, special events, trips to aquatic facilities, and all other programs and/or activities as needed
Lead day camp staff meetings and attend Park District staff meetings and trainings as required
Required to be on-site at the beginning/end of each camp day, while campers are at aquatic facilities, field trips, special events, and throughout the camp day
Site Director will assist with all discipline problems at camp site and will contact the Youth Program Coordinator or the Youth Recreation Supervisor when situations require such action
Site Directors will turn in supply list and calendars each week
Site Directors will provide a calendar to the parents during each session and a calendar for posting on the Gurnee Park District website
Promotes high morale among staff and campers
Develop and maintain good relationships with parents
Provide customer service and friendliness to all participants and parents
Greet the campers by name and parents on a daily basis
Maintain contact with all community resources for specialized activities
Work with other site directors in coordinating camp-wide events
Oversee the integration process of special needs campers by working with parents, Warren Special Recreation, and inclusion supervisor
Assist in training, supervising and dismissal of staff
Direct, organize, and lead groups in all camp activities where necessary
Closely supervise the health and sanitary needs of the campers and staff
Take on the responsibilities of the camp counselor in his/her absence
Responsible for the supervision and organization of campsite including daily cleanup and decorating the campsite before each day and session
Site Directors will be responsible for counselor assignment including daily activities, camp groups, before and after camp programs\Maintain positive reinforcement system for campers and staff
Arrive on time as scheduled and dressed appropriately for work
Assist with set up and cleanup
Keep records as required by the Park District
Be knowledgeable of phone locations and the telephone numbers for the police, fire, and paramedics
Perform related work as required by Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Recreation Supervisor and/or the Site Director
Makes sure staff clocks in/out. If a staff member forgets or is having trouble clocking in/out pass on that information to the Youth Recreation Supervisor, so staff hours are accounted for.
Inspects supplies, equipment and facilities and recommend necessary maintenance and repair work, supervise issuance, return and storage of equipment
Help and supervise the work of Volunteers
Assist in the recruiting of children and/or staff when the occasion arises
