About The Position

The Day Camp Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Day Camp programs.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age
  • Minimum of Associates Degree required, degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum 240 hours experience as a child care teacher or center director in a group child care center
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing a youth program
  • Must meet Wisconsin Licensing qualifications for Center Director; must meet qualifications for Center Director of 51 or more within 24 months
  • Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
  • Must be capable of carrying loads of up to 30 pounds and able to traverse hilly and uneven terrain without undue exertion.
  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Perform essential program support to camp activities and programs which may include, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climates.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, directs, and coordinates the Day Camp programs; Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists the School Age Director with coordinating the before and after school age program and being in counts during a portion of the school year.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls day camp budgets; Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected; Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards and Wisconsin State Licensing requirements are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
