The Database Engineer - DB2 position is a hybrid role that involves providing services for TIAA's family of companies as a Non-Employee Contingent Worker. This role is designed for individuals who can perform a variety of moderately complex business planning, support, and project-related duties. The successful candidate will demonstrate an exceptional standard of quality and hold themselves accountable for achieving excellent results. The position will require the individual to work onsite, likely in a hybrid capacity, at one of the specified locations: Iselin, NJ, Charlotte, NC, or Broomfield, CO. The anticipated term of this engagement is 7 months, with the possibility of extension based on the company's business needs. As a Database Engineer, the individual will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the organization's operating systems, specifically focusing on the Adabas and DB2 database platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of mainframe operations within the IBM z/OS platform. The engineer will formulate system scope through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems, evaluate and implement changes to existing system logic, and maintain relationships with stakeholders to address their requirements. Additionally, the engineer will provide support by directing teams in baseline, target, and roadmap development, transition planning, system and security management, and segment architecture. The position also involves educating end users on system designs and functionalities, evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of application operations, and troubleshooting problems. The engineer will ensure 24/7 availability and performance of application databases, manage database backup and recovery, and prepare, maintain, and execute disaster recovery plans. This role is critical in overseeing and optimizing all database maintenance processes and ensuring compliance with environment standards such as object naming, security, and backup procedures.
