About The Position

The Database Coordinator for Surgical Services integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to identify, acquire, preserve, manage, retrieve, aggregate, analyze and transmit data, information and knowledge making it meaningful and useful to clinical practice, administration, education, research, and the expansion of nursing and other clinical knowledge. This includes the evaluation of applications, tools, processes, and structures which assist clinicians with the management of data in taking care of patients or in supporting the clinical practice for Surgical Services. The Database Coordinator works collaboratively with users of clinical information systems from Surgical Services, with various departments in the Information Systems division as necessary, and in problem-solving issues related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. This Database Coordinator also helps coordinate aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. This person acts as a liaison between clinicians, IS technicians and analysts, and system vendors to develop and implement information systems that support clinical practice for the Surgical Division.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse/Certified Surgical Technician/First Assistant or Bachelor’s Degree in I.T. with relevant surgical experience.
  • Knowledge of AORN standards and Perioperative nursing care.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • 3-5 years of OR experience required with strong clinical experience of OR processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use machines, tools, equipment, and works as necessary to perform job duties in the OR.
  • Must hold a current certificate in BCLS.
  • Must maintain current license/certification in Florida as licensed Registered Nurse, Certified First Assistant, Certified Surgical Technician.
  • Non-Surgical candidates must have obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher in I.T. or relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides facilitation, coordination and support for nursing computerization within Surgical Services, Endoscopy, Pre-Procedure, PACU, and Central Sterile.
  • Act as a clinical resource for perioperative services personnel within the specialty using professional guidelines and evidence-based standards.
  • Perform surgical case management with other members of the surgical team, ensuring that all cases have necessary equipment, personnel, and supplies prior to case start.
  • Works closely with Materials Management and SPD Supervisor position to assist with those duties.
  • Builds and Maintains Surgeon Preference cards ensuring accurate charge capturing.
