About The Position

The Database Application Specialist at Jackson College is responsible for managing and resolving work requests related to enterprise applications and database technologies. This role involves technical leadership in implementing enterprise technologies, ensuring the integration of college systems with existing campus technologies, and supporting customer needs through effective project management and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in technology related program; or five years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of advanced database administration and information security management practices.
  • Knowledge of advanced enterprise-level network, hardware, and software configurations and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern collaboration methods and terminology (MS Office 365 preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic student information system methods and terminology (Ellucian Colleague preferred).
  • Knowledge of learning management system methods and terminology (Canvas preferred).
  • Knowledge of document management methods and terminology (Softdocs preferred).
  • Knowledge of customer relationship management methods and terminology (Raiser's Edge preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server environment (Active Directory and Domain Services preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Resolve work requests and complete projects involving Enterprise Technologies functions and capabilities.
  • Focus on customer needs specific to network account, database, Colleague (ERP), learning management system (Canvas), and Colleague reporting tool (Webi).
  • Anticipate, identify, research, develop, and document solutions to customer problems.
  • Monitor product lifecycles to maintain continuous vendor support and complete upgrades or replacement projects prior to support expiration.
  • Research and resolve issues identified by end users during testing of Enterprise Technologies system upgrades and system maintenance updates.
  • Review enterprise system capabilities, workflows, and limitations to determine if requested changes and enhancements are possible within existing systems.
  • Design system specifications to best meet end user needs while maintaining information security standards.
  • Work with and often lead teams on projects that maintain or improve systems that serve and support students.
  • Coordinate project team meetings, logistics, and scheduling of events.
  • Establish and execute a clear and concise communication plan.
  • Evaluate project proposals to assess feasibility and requirements.
  • Determine scope, cost, and duration; ensure that college strategic goals are addressed in project planning efforts.
  • Implement enterprise technologies and incorporate new systems and workflows with existing campus technologies.
  • Assist end-users with reporting needs including defining, designing, writing, and implementing new reports.
  • Integrate college information contained in academic, administrative, operational, and directory-enabled databases or sources.
  • Maintain SQL and related database technologies.
  • Ensure business continuity by implementing and testing disaster recovery protocols and procedures.
  • Manage application-level user and group security for Enterprise Technologies applications.
  • Serve as facilitator for departmental liaison group(s).
  • Promote relationships between Information Technology and the college community.
  • Collaborate with peer institutions to exchange knowledge and share best practices.
  • Write and maintain documentation of changes to technical processes, procedures, and user support materials.
  • Translate and communicate technical information into non-technical terminology.
  • Routinely train end users and technical support staff to use enterprise technology services and features.
  • Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations and policies governing data management.
