Seeking an IT professional to provide support in the design and maintenance of database structures and develop policies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, recommending, and implementing procedures necessary to backup and recovery databases from hardware and software failures. Must have the ability to communicate in a professional, customer-focused manner. Collaborates with other IT teams as well as business customers to accomplish work. The Database Administrator is selected by and accountable to the Data Governance Officer with the approval of the Chief Information Officer. Performs highly complex to advanced (senior-level) database administration work. Work involves providing direction and guidance in database administration operations and planning; providing for the efficient and effective storage, retrieval, customization, and archiving of data to ensure integrated database systems; planning, developing, and implementing database policies and procedures; and maintaining and verifying data integrity. Work is performed under limited to minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May supervise the work of others. Maintains a reliable, predictable work schedule. May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments.

  • Documents database processes and interfaces.
  • Defines and documents the technical architecture of the mainframe DB2 database, including the physical components and their functionality, data models and data dictionaries.
  • Coordinates activities with the rest of the Mainframe DBA team and with developers.
  • Assists in promoting DB2 database objects from lower to higher environments.
  • Creates and maintains data models and data dictionaries.
  • Performs other analysis and documentation tasks as required to facilitate and support TWC's mainframe DB2 database.
  • Maintains disaster recovery procedures and participate in disaster recovery tests and actual recoveries as needed.
  • May develop and conduct training and/or give expert advice on database/information availability, design policies and standards and database query tools.
  • May work outside normal office hours and days when needed to resolve production issues and provide on-call activities.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures, including IT Handbook and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), that govern TWC IT.
  • Contributes to teamwork and communicates effectively.

  • May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to maintain IT operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science, management information systems, or related technical field and 6 years' related work experience.
  • Experience and understanding of mainframe based relational databases.
  • Experience overseeing the design and maintenance of database structures and developing policies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment.
  • Experience assessing future information requirements, develops goals and objectives for improvement and use of an efficient and cost-effective database system.
  • Experience in designing, recommending, and implementing procedures necessary to backup and recovery databases from hardware and software failures.
  • Recommends and implements necessary database security standards and controls. Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a team of database administrators, analysts and developers to complete work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both orally and in writing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently while understanding the need for communicating and coordinating work efforts with others.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.
  • Database Administrator III: Three years of full-time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis.
  • Database Administrator IV: Four years of full-time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis.
  • Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
