The Database Administrator position provides technical support for mainframe, middleware infrastructure, and distributed systems, with a focus on database administration and application support. The role includes maintaining and optimizing complex databases such as DB2, MS SQL, and Oracle, and supporting application teams with debugging, configuration, and performance tuning. This position also assists in administering the X/PTR report repository and provides CICS administration and problem-solving support. Work involves collaboration with internal teams and vendors to ensure system reliability, security, and performance. The position requires strong technical expertise across multiple platforms and participation in on-call and after-hours support as needed.

  • Provide technical support for mainframe, middleware, and distributed systems to ensure availability and performance of critical applications.
  • Analyze and resolve system and application issues, including abends, software bugs, and interoperability problems across platforms.
  • Support database design, implementation, and maintenance for DB2, MS SQL, and Oracle environments in development, testing, and production.
  • Evaluate and optimize complex SQL queries to improve software performance and reduce resource consumption.
  • Monitor system metrics such as CPU cycles, storage, and I/O utilization to proactively identify and address performance issues.
  • Administer the X/PTR report repository, including report and bundle definitions, index programs, and security configurations.
  • Assist application teams with CICS administration, debugging, and coordination with DIT personnel for issue resolution.
  • Participate in configuration and release management activities using tools such as Endevor to support software deployment.
  • Provide technical consultation during requirements and design sessions to guide system architecture and database planning.
  • Perform on-call and after-hours support to ensure successful execution of over 1,500 scheduled jobs daily.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in business application consulting or development
  • Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in application consulting or development
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and six years of experience in business application consulting or development
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining enterprise-level databases such as DB2, MS SQL, or Oracle, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, and patch management.
  • Proven ability to analyze and optimize complex SQL queries to improve system performance and reduce resource utilization in high-volume environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency in administering mainframe environments, including CICS debugging, Endevor configuration management, and Z/OS system operations.
  • Documented success managing X/PTR report repositories, including defining report bundles, maintaining index programs, and resolving user access issues.
  • Demonstrated experience translating technical issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders and collaborating across infrastructure and application teams.
