MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced Database Administrator III located in Madison, WI. Our client is a government agency looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. They are known to respect a traditional work week and often extend contracts for added job security and stability.   Note: Candidates must be CURRENT WI residents. No relocation allowed. This position will be onsite a minimum of two days per week.   Job Description Under the general guidance of the IT Operations Manager, this position is responsible for growing and operating the Information Technology program at Wisconsin. This position serves as an expert resource and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Coordinates physical changes to computer databases
  • Codes, tests, and implements physical database, applying knowledge of database management system
  • Designs logical and physical databases reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes to be made affect physical database (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics, such as location, amount of space, and access method)
  • Establishes physical database parameters
  • Codes database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database-to-database management system, or directs others in coding database descriptions
  • Calculates optimum values for database parameters, such as amount of computer memory to be used by database, following manuals and using calculator
  • Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items, such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data
  • Specifies which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by user
  • Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database
  • Enters codes to create production data base
  • Selects and enters codes of utility program to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory
  • Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system
  • Reviews and corrects programs
  • Answers user questions
  • Confers with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to database
  • Modifies database programs to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning
  • May train users
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., installation, configuration, support and troubleshooting) and SQL database administration (e.g., database security, SQL and/or PL/SQL tuning, report writing, scripting and task automation)
  • Effective and professional communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with a variety of customers including executives.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification or similar
  • CompTIA A+ certification of similar
  • PMP certification or similar
