About The Position

The Database Administrator I supports the Bank's SQL Server database environment under guidance from senior team members. Assists with monitoring, routine maintenance, and basic administrative tasks while developing knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, and Bank operations. Works closely with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to support data operations and maintain compliance with regulatory and Bank standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent years of work experience, required.
  • 1-3 years' experience in database administration, IT operations, or related technical role, required.
  • Exposure to SQL Server administration, query writing, or database concepts, required.
  • Basic experience with SQL Server administration tasks including installation, configuration, and routine maintenance.
  • Understanding of SQL query writing and basic performance troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Agent job scheduling and monitoring.
  • Basic knowledge of backup and recovery concepts.
  • Understanding of database security fundamentals including user management and permissions.
  • Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, T-SQL) or willingness to learn.
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Analytical mindset with focus on learning and problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills with comfort working across technical teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative, integrity, and eagerness to learn with a service orientation toward supporting data operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience within banking, financial services, or payments industry, preferred.
  • Awareness of data warehouse concepts and reporting workloads a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors SQL Server instance health including disk space, memory utilization, and job status. Escalates issues to senior team members as appropriate.
  • Assists with schema changes and database deployments under guidance from senior DBAs, following established change management processes.
  • Monitors SQL Agent job execution and alerts. Documents job failures and assists with troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Performs routine database maintenance tasks including index rebuilds, statistics updates, and integrity checks following established procedures.
  • Assists with database security administration including user account creation, password resets, and basic permission assignments.
  • Supports backup operations and assists with backup validation testing under guidance from senior team members.
  • Documents database configurations, procedures, and issue resolutions to support knowledge sharing and audit requirements.
  • Assists with compliance tasks including gathering audit evidence and maintaining access logs as directed.
  • Collaborates with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to support routine requests and troubleshoot basic database issues.
  • Learns Bank systems, data structures, and regulatory requirements affecting database operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
