The Database Administrator, Associate will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the database environment for the client UI Modernization effort. The contractor will ensure high performance, reliability, and security of all databases, supporting state IT implementation, software engineering, application development, and system testing. The role involves working closely with other contractors and federal staff as part of integrated product teams (IPTs) and will provide scalable solutions across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures.

  • Maintain all aspects of database servers including backup/recovery, performance monitoring, capacity planning, patching, and upgrading.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing remediation steps.
  • Design, implement, and maintain logical and physical database structures for system performance, scalability, and security.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring efficiency and effective resource utilization.
  • Ensure database security and access control, adhering to DOL, FISMA, and NIST security protocols and audits.
  • Ensure all database servers are operating under current versions applicable to software needs after thorough testing.
  • Perform database maintenance tasks, including security vulnerability remediation and patch management.
  • Support the configuration and maintenance of all database environments and ensure they comply with DOL security standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for database systems and configuration management.
  • Assist in providing operations and maintenance support for existing systems and new initiatives in the UI modernization effort.
  • Work on database-related configuration management tasks, ensuring adherence to established processes and best practices.
  • Participate in the promotion of code and database updates, ensuring proper testing and approval.
  • Collaborate with federal staff, contractors, and other stakeholders on database-related needs for system testing, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide support to development teams and other IPT members for database-related issues in the software development lifecycle.
  • Assist with software development and implementation, ensuring databases are integrated effectively with application solutions.
  • Provide data analysis and reporting as required, assisting with performance evaluation and program effectiveness.
  • Develop reports and presentations for management, highlighting key database metrics and performance indicators.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and actionable reporting to stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with relational databases, including database administration, management, and support.
  • Experience with database security, backup, recovery, and performance monitoring in a professional environment.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-based environment, particularly within integrated product teams (IPTs).
  • Experience in a government or public sector environment.
  • Experience with cloud-based database platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with NIST, FISMA, and other government security standards.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with common database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Familiarity with database design, management, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of security protocols and best practices for database management.
  • Knowledge of system development life cycles (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and DevOps practices is preferred.
  • Preferred Certifications: Such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Associate, or similar certifications are a plus.
