Summary: The Database Administrator will provide enterprise-wide administration and production support for corporate databases. This position will be responsible for installing, testing, configuring, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and developing evaluation plans, education programs, corporate policies, and procedures. This role will demonstrate a high-level of responsibility and consistency by contributing to the timely response and closure of incidents received via the corporate incident tracking system. The Database Administrator will work to identify functionality to empower users. This key individual frequently interacts with multiple departments to advocate for customers' projects and incidents and providing timely responses. Essential Accountabilities: Level I Plans, tests and implements new database software releases, patches, upgrades, maintenance, or enhancement initiatives. Monitors and manages existing systems to provide pro-active support to users such as: o Growth of data files, database objects, and space usage alerting and reporting Supporting the Application development project lifecycle activities may include but are not limited to: o Implements database objects and/or database object modifications to support application maintenance or enhancement release initiatives such as tables, indexes, procedures o Migration of database physical structures from development through production o Migration of data from one environment to another Protects the integrity of the database through effective behaviors relating to security, overall policies/procedures, audits, and documentation. Configuration of database backups and ensures backup completions are successful. Accurately prepares all documentation to comply with change management controls. Participation in Disaster Recovery and 24x7 on-call support. Level II (in addition to Level I Accountabilities) Monitors and manages existing systems to provide pro-active support to users such as: o Development and implementation of database metrics alerting and reporting o Monitoring of databases and associated hosts using various performance monitoring tools o Communicates existing and/or potential performance issues to appropriate support groups Supporting the Application development project lifecycle activities may include but are not limited to o Planning, coordination, and implementation of database objects and/or database object modifications to support application maintenance or enhancement release initiatives o Supporting timeframes defined by project management process Provides problem recognition and resolution support to appropriate support groups and internal/external customers. Develops, tests, and implements database backups that ensures recoverability within negotiated customer specifications. Assists in database tuning such as configuring database parameters, performing database reorganizations, and statistics. Monitors execution of controls to ensure compliance (i.e. Segregation of Duties). Defines and implements the process to maintain application security. Communicates existing and/or potential security violations to management. Level III (in addition to Level II Accountabilities) Reviews new database releases and determines impact to current systems. Creates and evaluates standards for new database software releases, patches, upgrades, maintenance, or enhancement initiatives. Independently leads platform teams and works with teams to meet business, technical and people goals. Leverages a strong ability to integrate database knowledge with application support Evaluates, recommends, and implements performance improvements across corporate database systems. Identifies poorly performing SQL patterns and recommend changes to improve performance. Support of the Application development project lifecycle activities may include but are not limited to o Provides technical consultation for applications development on data manipulation and data migration o Applies application patches when required o Guides application team, promoting corporate policies and sound code promotion practices Defines, creates and maintains database disaster recovery plan. Coordinates database recovery efforts with appropriate support groups and affected business units. Level IV (in addition to Level III Accountabilities) Acts as trusted advisor to the management team. Emphasizes technology cost optimization when designing new solutions. Provides technical consultation for Applications Development. Recognizes, designs, administers, or arranges continuing education programs for users. Serves as mentor for peers. This includes 24x7 on call escalation for incidents. Proactively generates relevant ideas for new and improved use of technology based on knowledge of the corporate business, products and systems, and customers’ business needs. Leads business critical projects efforts for IT infrastructure. Leads internal strategic efforts and collaborates with peers. Participates in the selection of the database management system & other related software.
