About The Position

Bloomberg News is seeking a Data Visualization Reporter in New York. This role will focus on breaking news and news coverage on topics core to Bloomberg's audience - including business, finance, markets, economics, technology and government matters. We're looking for someone who enjoys taking the lead in conceptualising and crafting informative, data-driven graphics when news breaks, and who follows the story and develops visual narratives as events unfold. Our team is highly collaborative, and we value people who are motivated to work with others and pitch in to ensure our contributions to newsroom coverage are timely.

Requirements

Strong sense of visual design, layout and typography, as well as familiarity with design software, including Adobe Illustrator and Figma
Experience reporting on varied deadlines and crafting visual narratives with data
Experience with data reporting - the ability to collect, manage, munge and analyze data from various sources and formats using R, Python, or other programmatic methods

Nice To Haves

Experience with front-end web development is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Rely on your outstanding curiosity, creativity, technical prowess and design sensibilities to create informative maps, charts, explanatory diagrams and other graphics in response to news, planned and unplanned
Work efficiently under tight deadlines
Collaborate with team members and newsroom colleagues to report on news events as they evolve over subsequent days or weeks, identifying potential data and visual opportunities for stories that push our coverage forward
Possess experience or interest covering topics core to Bloomberg News - and an eagerness to develop subject-matter expertise in these areas
