MLB is looking for a Data Visualization Engineer based in its New York City headquarters. This role will transform MLB’s extensive business data into accessible, intuitive, and reliable interactive dashboards and reports that benefit the baseball industry. This position will use a mix of data engineering, analytics, and front-end development skills to empower business owners with actionable insights that drive strategic decisions. Strong familiarity with the nature of MLB’s businesses is required to translate complex data into actionable insights and next steps. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baseball and prefer working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and collaborative environment. Qualified candidates will be eager to leverage their technical skills to contribute to MLB’s data initiatives and research programs. They will have a demonstrable ability to collect, analyze, and the ability to weave quantitative and qualitative data into compelling stories that drive consensus and action among Club and MLB stakeholders. They will have experience with the Google Cloud Platform (incl. Looker), Tableau, and prototyping and building with visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, React, Looker Extension Framework). Competitive candidates will have strong knowledge of data-relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R), and building and modeling data pipelines (e.g., dbt). Applicants should be familiar with macro trends within the sports, media, and entertainment industries. Most importantly, qualified candidates will possess a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
