This position will design, develop, and maintain high-impact data visualizations and interactive dashboards using Tableau and related analytics platforms. The role combines strong SQL skills, database optimization knowledge, and visual design expertise to transform complex datasets into compelling, actionable insights for stakeholders across federal government clients.
Key responsibilities include: (i) developing Tableau dashboards with sophisticated parameters, filters, and drill-down capabilities; (ii) writing optimized SQL queries and understanding database performance through proper use of partitions, indexes, and query optimization techniques; (iii) creating visually appealing, user-friendly dashboard layouts that follow UX best practices; (iv) embedding and integrating Tableau visualizations into web applications and portals; (v) collaborating with data engineers and architects to design efficient data models that support visualization requirements; and (vi) exploring and implementing AI-enhanced analytics capabilities, including natural language query generation, automated insights, and predictive visualizations as these capabilities mature within BI platforms. This role offers significant growth opportunities to expand into advanced analytics, data science applications, and emerging AI-powered visualization technologies.

Requirements

• Tableau Development & Design (3+ years)
• Expert-level Tableau dashboard development including complex calculated fields, LOD expressions, and advanced chart types.
• Strong visual design sense with ability to create clean, professional, and intuitive dashboard layouts.
• Extensive experience with Tableau parameters, actions, and filters to create interactive user experiences.
• Proven ability to transform rough requirements into polished, production-ready visualizations SQL & Database Optimization (3+ years).
• Proficient in SQL for complex queries, joins, aggregations, and data transformations.
• Understanding of database performance optimization including partition pruning, index usage, and query execution plans.
• Experience with live database connections vs. extracts and knowing when to use each approach.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize slow-running visualizations through query and data source improvements
• Application Integration & Deployment (2+ years).
• Experience embedding Tableau dashboards into web applications using Tableau's JavaScript API or REST API.
• Understanding of user authentication and row-level security implementations.
• Familiarity with Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud administration and publishing workflows.
• Experience with version control and promoting visualizations across development, test, and production environments

Nice To Haves

• AI & Advanced Analytics Exposure:
• Interest in or experience with AI-powered analytics features (e.g., Ask Data, Einstein Analytics, natural language generation).
• Familiarity with Python or R for custom analytics and integration with Tableau.
• Understanding of machine learning concepts and how to visualize model outputs, predictions, and uncertainty
• Technical Breadth:
• Experience with other BI tools (Power BI, Qlik, Looker) or data visualization libraries (D3.js, Plotly).
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, Google BigQuery).
• Experience with modern data stack tools (dbt, Fivetran, Airflow) and how they feed visualization layers.
• Understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, and data warehouse design principles
