The Data Systems Administrator position is located within the Office of Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research (DAPIR). DAPIR includes Academic Planning, Institutional Research & Decision Support, Data Governance, and Enterprise Data Management. The Data Systems Engineer will be on the Enterprise Data Management team within DAPIR and will be instrumental in helping shape the future of UW-Madison's data landscape. Enterprise Data Management is in the process of modernizing several elements of the UW-Madison data platform and is looking for an experienced data professional to help us grow beyond traditional databases into new technologies and methodologies (data lakes, data lakehouse, data fabric, etc.) This role will be central to helping design, build, and maintain physical and virtual database systems and related data systems (AWS S3, data applications, etc.) in a hybrid cloud and on-premises environment, and will assist with the overall UW-Madison data platform to ensure data security and integrity. This position will play a large role in improving business processes and SDLC by helping to implement new DevOps and CI/CD automations. The Data Systems Engineer will support the Data Systems Administrator in monitoring system performance and configuration, performing troubleshooting, and performing system administration duties. The Data Systems Engineer role will also take a more active role in developing new data projects, performing data warehousing tasks such as data modeling and ETL development.
