About The Position

We are seeking a Database & Systems Analyst (Information Systems Specialist 6) to join our Office of Finance, Administration & Information Technology (OFIT) at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a Permanent appointment and represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). This position is pending reclassification and has the potential to become permanent. This role is a hybrid of remote work and will need to report to office when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities. Remote work is embraced to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business. As the Database & Systems Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the State’s education information system by ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of enterprise databases and by analyzing and optimizing information systems that support student data, academic performance, and administrative operations. This role bridges technical database administration with strategic systems analysis to enhance data-driven decision-making across the education information ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of information systems experience in: Enterprise Database Administration and Support
  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience in: Enterprise Database Administration and Support
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in: Enterprise Database Administration and Support

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in managing Microsoft SQL environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft T-SQL language
  • Proficiency in data and systems security and data privacy
  • Understanding of MS SQL service maintenance and performance
  • Familiarity data modeling and structures
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex systems
  • Comfortability supporting and managing requests from Developers

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and optimize relational databases to maintain system reliability, performance, and security.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing systems to identify improvements, support functional requirements, and guide system design.
  • Collaborate with developers, enterprise architects, and business analysts to support solution development, integration, testing, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and statewide policies through effective access management, audit practices, and disaster-recovery procedures.
