About The Position

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO’s Market Operations department invites applications for a full-time Data Scientist. This position independently performs the job duties necessary to support the IRM, LCR and Import Rights studies. Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for resource-based reliability issues, oversees and performs resource adequacy analysis for operations studies and to inform the NYISO’s position, as requested, such as supporting Market Solutions efforts and other organizational efforts that require input from the Resource Adequacy team. The Data Scientist will collaborate with NYISO colleagues and industry experts on analytical, programming, modeling and data management processes related to NYISO’s Resource Adequacy model. The Data Scientist will lead initiatives to innovate new modeling approaches, forecasting methods and software tools to capture and communicate the transition of the New York electricity grid in the Resource Adequacy model. The Data Scientist will also be developing improved data management processes and methods to reflect new technology characteristics to inform Resource Adequacy model assumptions and efficient signals in the NYISO administered Installed Capacity (ICAP) Market. Presents reports and communicate complex, technical content to internal and external groups across a broad range of market participants, NYS Reliability Council (NYSRC)/NYISO stakeholders and industry groups. Creates and delivers public presentations to NYSRC/NYISO stakeholders in support of group efforts. Coordinates and communicates information and results with other NYISO groups and creates study reports and updates to NYISO manuals and other procedures if necessary. In addition, the Data Scientist acts as the technical lead in the evolution of the Resource Adequacy studies in leading the conceptualization and development of the modeling improvement whitepapers and strategizing the implementation of NYISO recommendation. It is expected that Data Scientist will be responsible for presenting key NYISO recommendations before the New York State Reliability Council on Resource Adequacy matters. The Data Scientist engages with groups across the NYISO, including Planning, Operations, Market Mitigation and Analysis and Market Solutions, to maintain open communication channels and achieve corporate goals such as Market Solutions efforts and deployments.
