Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

Apple Maps is changing, and data is in the driver's seat. Our mission is to build the best map in the world. We work in a fast-paced data-focused environment where Data Scientists are given runway to own big projects and drive impact across the Maps organization. We are looking for a talented, experienced Data Scientist to join our cross-functional team, focusing on the deep evaluation of Apple Maps search services, features, and Apple Business Connect. We work directly with the Engineering and Product teams responsible for search, recommendation, and other algorithms that impact our millions of users every day. Our day-to-day work crosses many functional areas, including experiment design, AB testing, exploratory data analysis, data mining, and more.

  • Build data products (feature datasets, analyses, models, etc.), scalable tools (typically in Python) and dashboards to drive hypothesis generation and support collaborative decision-making with our partner teams in engineering and product management.
  • Design, create and validate actionable metrics, at both the component level and to measure overall user engagement and experience.
  • Design effective experiments for evaluating complex data and machine learning-based systems.
  • Develop models and analyses to mine large volume of data, extract insights, and recommend opportunities for product improvements.
  • Automate analyses and pipelines via SQL and Python-based ETL frameworks.
  • Communicate insights to partner teams to influence product direction with data.
  • Use data intuition to translate hard product goals and business problems into solvable data science problems.
  • MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, or similar quantitative domain.
  • 5+ years experience with data analysis at web scale or relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in Python.
  • Proficient in at least one database language (e.g., SQL, Snowflake).
  • Strong in translating ambiguous business questions and needs into clear technical requirements, and using statistical techniques to find solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven experience communicating complex technical concepts to senior executives to drive data-informed decision.
  • Strong ability to manage priorities and demonstrated leadership in cross-functional collaboration with teams across engineering, product, business, design, and more.
  • Prior industry experience with AB testing and causal inference.
  • Experience in information retrieval.
  • Prior proven industry experience with large data sets using technologies like Hadoop and Spark.
  • Experience writing pipelines for automating analytics tasks at scale.
  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists and leading projects of varying sizes and scopes.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental coverage.
  • Retirement benefits.
  • A range of discounted products and free services.
  • Reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.
  • Opportunity to participate in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
  • Eligibility for discretionary bonuses or commission payments.
  • Relocation assistance.
