About The Position

As our Lead Data Scientist, you will act as an internal business consultant to help optimize every facet of this organization. You will solve problems and answer questions – using data – for other departments to help us reduce costs, reduce errors, and be a better organization for our 17 million members. This is a remote role; however, the candidate must reside within a 100-mile radius of our Costa Mesa, CA office and be available to work on-site once a week on a regular basis, as well as 2–3 times per month for team meetings and collaboration days.

Requirements

  • Solid foundation of statistics and data analysis.
  • Ability to describe a project where data was pulled, analyzed, trends or patterns identified, significance determined, and insights or recommendations delivered to the business.
  • Proficiency with SQL for pulling data.
  • Proficiency in either Python or R for curating and analyzing data.
  • Excellent communication skills and an attitude of flexibility.
  • Ability to explain changes in approach or why deliverables are taking longer than expected to stakeholders or the team.
  • Experience working previously with an Agile team or understanding Agile concepts.
  • Expectation to participate in daily standup meetings.
  • Ability to complete projects or stories during bimonthly sprints.
  • Readiness to meet frequent deployment deadlines.
  • Must reside within a 100-mile radius of our Costa Mesa, CA office.
  • Available to work on-site once a week on a regular basis, as well as 2–3 times per month for team meetings and collaboration days.

Responsibilities

  • Help solve business problems presented by stakeholders using data.
  • Pull, analyze, and interpret data relevant to scenarios like reducing cycle times.
  • Pull data from SQL databases.
  • Analyze and interpret data using Python, R, or other tools.
  • Determine patterns or trends and their statistical significance to the problem.
  • Visualize the data using Tableau.
  • Present findings to the stakeholder (paired with a data engineer) and confirm, refute or simply acknowledge a hypothesis.
  • Report to the Costa Mesa, CA office for regular collaboration days.
