We are seeking a data scientist to join the Center for Limnology. The data scientist's role will be to contribute to the research agendas of Center for Limnology PIs and partners, by preparing data sets, analyzing them using reproducible techniques, and summarizing and presenting results. The data scientist may help in mentoring students and will engage with center-wide activities at the Hasler Lab of limnology. The data scientist will work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Prepares data sets for analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources
  • Independently identifies and implements appropriate data science techniques to find data patterns and answer research questions chosen by the lead researcher including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining
  • Organizes and automates project steps for data preparation and analysis
  • Composes and assembles reproducible workflows and reports to clearly articulate patterns to researchers and/or administrators
  • Documents approaches to address research questions and contributes to the establishment of reproducible research methodologies and analysis workflows
  • Travel to present results or work with collaborators
  • Serves as a resource to the Center for Limnology community for identifying appropriate methods and learning new data science processes
  • Contribute to publication of research results
  • Demonstrate knowledge of limnology, with field work experience
  • Expert in the R programming language, use of data repositories such as GitHub, and reproducible workflows
  • Experience working with both temporal and spatial data (GIS), creating data visualizations, and developing web applications such as Shiny Apps
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
