SUMMARY Provide research support services as related to the Combat Casualty Care mission. Assist with ongoing research that addresses Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Research Program (MSISRP) and the Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) MSISRP technology gaps for the Engineering, Technology, and Automation Combat Research Team (CRT6) to include the Semi-Automated Casualty Care System (SACM), Augmented Reality (AR) Technology for PFC, Smart Tourniquet and Validation of Automated Vascular Access Devices projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide research support services related to identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from varied structured and unstructured data sets. These services also include the development of algorithms and/or tools to support data manipulation and processing as well as the use of data visualization techniques to articulate findings. Apply professional knowledge of computer science and mathematical and statistical theories, techniques, and methods to gather/analyze/design/construct new processes for modeling, interpreting, and/or reporting quantitative information, trends, relationships, and correlations among or within data sets. Advise on the potential benefits/uses of automation to improve the efficiency of program operations. Provide analysis of a variety of data sources to provide data-driven insights to the organization to streamline processes. Analyze management information requirements to develop program or administrative reporting systems including the systems specifications, data gathering and analytical techniques, and systems evaluation methodology. Apply a combination of computational and machine learning methods to new or big data to identify new insights using next generation analytical tools. Conduct data extraction by using computer programming without preset specifications. Perform regression analysis, statistical analysis, modeling, machine learning, data engineering, mathematical programming, Natural Language Processing, auto coding, and data visualization. Conduct statistical analysis to make informed projections, data driven decisions, and recommendations based on findings. Prepare reports using machine learning, programming, and data visualization skills to present findings. Conduct literature reviews in medical and information technology fields related to the CRT6 mission. Draft and submit intramural and extramural grant proposals that address MSISRP and CCCRP technology gaps. Pre-/full applications for funding opportunities must be submitted through the Electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal (eBRAP). Obtain approvals to submit proposal applications from the CRT Science Lead, Program Manager, USAISR Business Development Office (BDO) and Research Director IAW USAISR routing policy. Create and submit an estimate of the total proposed research project cost/budget, with a work breakdown structure of all cost categories for each year until the project is completed. Define activities required to complete each item in the work breakdown structure and estimate activity duration. Assist in drafting Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs), Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and any other documents required to collaborate with internal and external partners. Independently conceptualize, draft, develop and conduct laboratory, animal, and human subject research protocols consistent with the USAISR and CRT6 missions. Work with sponsors, collaborators, USAISR research investigators, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to coordinate activities for protocol approval and implementation and to assure that appropriate regulatory documentation is completed. Assist in the internal and external assessment of adherence to protocols, ethical requirements, as well as relevant DoD and Institute regulations and guidance. Draft and maintain records of research activities, maintain research study regulatory readiness, and assist in regulatory audits/inspections. Lead an interdisciplinary team of software developers, clinicians, and researchers. Provide scientific research leadership and mentoring to junior researchers and fellows on team. Serve as a PI or Associate Investigator on research protocols. Collect data, document experimental findings, summarize data and prepare graphs/figures through use of available computer resources. Utilize statistical processes and applications including JMP, SAS, Prism, and R-Studio for data input formats. Possess skills and familiarity utilizing computer dataset tools: Python, SQL, Oracle Database, Java, R-language. Perform appropriate statistical computations on raw data to determine significance, summarize results and draw appropriate conclusions. Contribute to at least two publishable research findings in the form of abstracts/papers/presentations/posters each year. Present findings at lectures, seminars and scientific conferences. Facilitate the gathering and sharing of relevant intellectual knowledge, expertise, and data with clinical and research groups within the federal government, private sector and research facilities. Prepare periodic and status reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies. Assist drafting patent applications, intellectual property protections, invention disclosures, technology transfer agreements, etc. Responsible for providing a written Weekly Activity Report detailing project information, projected tasks, and limiting factors, as well as a Monthly Activity Report consisting of a consolidated summary of the Weekly Activity Reports. Assist in transitioning CRT6 developed technologies toward Advanced Development. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.
