About the position

The Data Scientist - BigData role is designed for an experienced professional with advanced data analysis skills and a strong understanding of the scientific method. The position focuses on data wrangling, analysis, and exploration, utilizing machine learning algorithms and big data processing frameworks to enhance decision-making and operational effectiveness within the Client Gas organization. The Data Scientist will be responsible for creating statistical models, managing data, and supporting analysis requests, while also fostering a data-driven culture across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Creating, enhancing, and deploying statistical models using machine learning algorithms to inform growth decisions and strategies across Client Gas (30%).
  • Developing a framework for Machine Learning/AI, training others on the framework, evaluating and monitoring model performance, and making recommendations on model edits.
  • Leveraging quantitative research to relate, compare, model, and map data from different sources, evaluating market conditions and customer data to identify key business opportunities.
  • Managing multiple, concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Managing data and supporting analysis requests for the Product Sales of Market Strategy (40%).
  • Maintaining and managing customer participation data for Product Sales and analyzing sales data to monitor performance.
  • Identifying customer trends to determine the potential impact and success of proposed strategies and recommending enhancements to current and proposed offerings.
  • Managing large amounts of data and applying data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques appropriately.
  • Creating and maintaining quality documentation, metadata, data pull instructions, and data dictionaries for technical and non-technical staff.
  • Supporting the organization's access to, understanding of, and engagement with internal and external data sources and systems (30%).
  • Working with various technologies (including SQL, R, Python, Excel, SAS, Azure, and Power BI) to design, develop, and distribute business intelligence solutions.
  • Performing ETL design and development, identifying key information sources, assessing information quality, and communicating limitations.
  • Building reports, data visualizations, and BI solutions, including presentation layer delivery.
  • Identifying data anomalies and working with business units to perform root cause analysis and resolve issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, MIS, Computer Science, or a related analytical field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in analytics, marketing, business analysis, and spatial analysis.
  • Advanced statistical and predictive modeling experience using both supervised and unsupervised modeling techniques.
  • Strong technical competency and programming skills in large-scale data analysis using coding/querying languages including SAS, Python, or R.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS/MBA degree, Ph.D., or progress toward Masters/Ph.D. in Business Analytics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience manipulating large datasets and databases with working knowledge of Hadoop or other big data cloud technologies (e.g. Azure or AWS).
  • Extensive knowledge of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and/or production-level model deployment in the cloud.
  • Experience in coding, testing, and implementing campaign data initiatives using real-time decision-making marketing technology.
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
