About The Position

The Data Science Officer at the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) is a pivotal role within the Science Services team, focusing on managing projects and evaluating programs related to data science and technology. This position requires expertise in various data science applications and policy implications, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. The officer will oversee project management, stakeholder engagement, and the development of science-informed policy recommendations, ensuring that equity, diversity, and inclusion are integral to the work.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in data science and technology.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related fields.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with project management software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to synthesize information for diverse audiences and build consensus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in California public policy.
  • Prior experience in a not-for-profit organization.
  • Experience with Asana or similar project management software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects related to data science and technology, ensuring timely and credible advice for policy decisions.
  • Perform outreach and conduct literature reviews to develop project scopes.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and staff participation.
  • Direct subcontractors and ensure clear communication and task prioritization.
  • Coordinate project steering committee meetings and manage peer review processes.
  • Develop marketing and media materials in collaboration with CCST Communications staff.
  • Build partnerships with academic, private sector, and philanthropic organizations to identify data science opportunities.
  • Engage with policymakers and thought leaders to understand information needs and identify gaps.
  • Monitor external trends and provide recommendations to CCST Leadership.
