About The Position

Erie Insurance is offering an opportunity to join our Future Focus Internship Program as a Data Science Intern. This internship is designed for college students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing a four-year degree or a master's degree program full-time. The internship will provide relevant and real-world business experience, with a focus on actuarial studies for auto, property, and commercial lines of business. Interns will work with experienced departmental staff, conduct actuarial studies, present findings to management, and support the work of actuarial analysts while learning the job function. The internship includes orientation to the company and the insurance industry, challenging assignments, a personal mentor, and various educational, social, and community service events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Pursuit of bachelor's degree with completion of sophomore year majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics or related field required.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required to be considered for this internship.
• Proficiency in probability and statistics as demonstrated by passing the first actuarial exam preferred.
• Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software preferred.

• Candidates in their final year of undergraduate study or pursuing graduate studies are also eligible.

Responsibilities

• Conduct actuarial studies for auto, property, and commercial lines of business.
• Assist in conducting detailed analysis of ERIE's insurance programs, profitability, rating factors, reserve studies, and dynamic financial analysis.
• Create exhibits, reports, and charts for actuarial and reserve studies, state insurance department filings, and rate recommendations.
• Develop a basic knowledge of ratemaking procedures used by ERIE, competitors, and rate bureaus.
• Write programs in SAS and Visual Basic to extract data to spreadsheet format.
• Gather ERIE and industry information in response to requests and present analysis to management.
