PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, excited, individual to be a part of the IT Team. As the Data Science Intern at PennEngineering, you’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things. Join us as we build the future in Manufacturing and Engineering! The Data Science Intern will support our analytics and data science team by helping transform raw data into actionable insights. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a STEM or quantitative field who is eager to apply analytical, statistical, and programming skills to real business challenges.

  • Assist in data collection, cleaning, validation, and preprocessing from multiple internal systems.
  • Support development of predictive models (e.g., regression, classification, forecasting).
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Help build dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Qlik, Power BI, or Python libraries.
  • Automate routine reporting tasks using Python, R, or SQL.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects with engineering, operations, quality, HR, and finance teams.
  • Help document processes, model assumptions, and analytic findings.
  • Present insights and recommendations to the data teams and business partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and business processes.
  • Excellent communication skills—ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Basic experience with Python or R for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
  • Knowledge of machine learning fundamentals (supervised/unsupervised learning).
  • Ability to visualize data using tools like Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, Matplotlib, or similar.
  • Comfort working with large datasets.
  • Experience with scikit-learn, Pandas, or NumPy, preferred
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling and experiment design, preferred.
