Job Description As a Data Science Intern, you will develop applied statistical modeling and predictive analytics tools that support decision-making across Accuray’s Global Service organization. This will include problem definition, exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model evaluation, with the goal of delivering a proof-of-concept model and operational framework by the end of the summer. This position will be based onsite at our headquarters in Madison, WI. The target start date for this role is Summer 2026 and has potential to be extended part-time into the 2026-2027 academic year.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar from an accredited college or university
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate-level student in good academic standing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and priorities over projects that span multiple months
  • Solid background in statistics and data analysis
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or another language for data manipulation, including common libraries and add-ons such as pandas and scikit-learn
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or projects related to predictive modeling, machine learning, or AI development.
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database technologies (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, InfluxDB)
  • Previous internship or project experience involving analysis of real-world data.
  • Foundational understanding of business concepts

Responsibilities

  • Define, research, and document business problems from the current development portfolio, performing exploratory data analysis as needed.
  • Perform feature engineering.
  • Select, develop, and prepare to operationalize predictive modeling tools.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and validate proposed models.
  • Document developed solutions and prepare communication appropriate to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Support ad-hoc data analysis requests from across the company.
