We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Science Director to join our team. This role will report directly to the leader of the US Employer Precision Underwriting/Pricing Program, a critical segment priority. The Data Science Director will play a pivotal role in advancing the integration of new technologies, including AI and Machine Learning, throughout our Underwriting Quoting Process. You will lead a dynamic team of data scientists and collaborate closely with Actuarial, Underwriting, and Data & Analytics teams to drive profitable growth and enhance our underwriting and pricing strategies.

  • Lead the development of advanced statistical and machine learning models to support underwriting and pricing initiatives
  • Design experiments using innovative modeling techniques and data sources to assess effectiveness at predicting claims costs and other drivers
  • Deepen understanding of client and/or customer-level variability through use of sophisticated modeling techniques
  • Assess existing data infrastructure and influence strategic decision-making around future data investments
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership based on data analysis and business insights
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the data science team
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders (data science COE, pricing, underwriting, etc.)
  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience in leading data science teams and managing cross-functional projects
  • Expertise in statistical modeling and machine learning techniques such as regression, decision trees, boosting algorithms, neural networks, supervised/unsupervised clustering techniques, and graph analytics
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
  • Experience with data mining architectures, models, protocols, and statistical reporting
  • In-depth knowledge of the healthcare payer space and the ability to bring in an outside perspective
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to perform insightful and actionable quantitative analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and navigate within a complex organization
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
