The Data Quality Manager at the Maine CDC is responsible for ensuring the quality of data collected for vital record reporting. This role supports the mission of the Data, Research, and Vital Statistics (DRVS) by monitoring electronic records, conducting data quality checks, and collaborating with healthcare providers to improve data accuracy. The position plays a critical role in public health by ensuring reliable data is available for surveillance, planning, and policy development.

  • Perform data quality checks of electronic records
  • Follow up with hospital reporters or funeral directors on data validations flagged through data quality checks or by the National Center for Health Statistics
  • Assist in preparing training materials on the use of electronic registration systems or data collection
  • Compile and distribute reports to hospitals about their data, including trends, discrepancies, error rates, incompletes, and unknowns
  • Engage in electronic and in-person quality improvement activities with hospital staff
  • Transmit data to Federal partners within established timeframes
  • A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience providing knowledge of principles of research and planning
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop trainings, outreach materials, and reports
  • Ability to review data and make appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to make logical, independent decisions
  • Knowledge and experience in data collection, database maintenance, and data cleaning
  • Background and interest in public health programs and research
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
  • Computer skills: experience with databases, statistical analysis software, and/or Excel
  • Experience in public health data management
  • Familiarity with electronic registration systems
  • Experience in training and outreach activities
