About The Position

The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia seeks a Data Platform Analyst to join the Data and Platform Services team. Reporting to the Director of Data and Platform Services, this role plays a vital part in connecting stakeholders with data solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making. The Data Platform Analyst will gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions, build and maintain ETL pipelines within a Microsoft Fabric environment, and develop Power BI dashboards and semantic models. This position will also support the secure modernization of analytics processes by leveraging AI capabilities available in Microsoft Fabric and other University-approved tools. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys working across the full analytics lifecycle—from stakeholder engagement through data delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 4 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.

  • SQL and relational databases

Responsibilities

  • Partner with faculty, staff, and leadership to understand data and reporting needs
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable data solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using Python, PySpark, and Microsoft Fabric
  • Develop Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports for analytics and operational use
  • Explore and implement AI-assisted analytics capabilities using Microsoft Fabric and approved University tools
  • Document data processes, transformations, and business logic
  • Support data quality, governance, security, and compliance initiatives
  • Collaborate with team members to continuously improve the data platform and expand capabilities
