CGI Federal has an exciting opportunity for a Data Ontology/Taxonomy Expert within our Intel sector advancing the national security mission through cutting edge technology. You must have a passion for keeping pace with rapidly evolving technology advancements and leveraging your knowledge on a highly collaborative team to deliver state-of-the-art capabilities. The Data Ontology/Taxonomy Expert designs, develops, and maintains structured classification systems and conceptual models to organize data and knowledge within an organization. By creating logical frameworks like taxonomies and ontologies, this expert improves data discoverability, usability, and governance across the enterprise. CGI Federal is growing its high-performance team whose members share a passion for building high-quality, scalable, advanced IT solutions in a collaborative, fast-paced, outcome-driven mission. This position is located in USA VA Arlington, however, a hybrid working model is acceptable. Must live within a 50-mile radius of the DMV/NCR

  • Design and development: Create, implement, and maintain enterprise-level taxonomies, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies to support content and data organization across various platforms.
  • Data modeling: Model complex data and its relationships to enable semantic interoperability and provide a unified view of the organization's information assets.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with data engineers, data scientists, product managers, and subject matter experts to understand business needs and translate them into effective data classification schemes.
  • Metadata management: Establish and enforce metadata standards and tagging best practices to ensure consistent and accurate data application by content creators.
  • Governance: Define and lead taxonomy and ontology governance processes, including versioning and change management, to ensure the framework evolves with organizational needs.
  • Systems integration: Collaborate with technical teams to integrate taxonomy and ontology functionality into new and existing systems, including content management systems (CMS), digital asset management (DAM), and knowledge graphs.
  • Training and support: Educate and train staff on taxonomy principles, metadata standards, and best practices to promote a culture of effective data organization.
  • Maintenance and auditing: Conduct regular audits and analysis to identify inconsistencies and refine existing taxonomies and ontologies for optimal performance.
  • Semantic technology application: Support the use of semantic technologies, such as knowledge graphs, and align models to enable artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications.
  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree and/or 2 to 5 years of experience
  • Security Clearance: TS/SCI required with the ability to obtain a Ci Poly; active TS/SCI with Poly highly desired
  • Technical expertise: o Proficiency with semantic web technologies and standards, such as OWL (Web Ontology Language), RDF (Resource Description Framework), and SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System). o Hands-on experience with ontology and taxonomy management tools, such as PoolParty or Protégé. o Experience with knowledge graphs and related graph database technologies. o Familiarity with querying languages like SPARQL or scripting languages like Python.
  • Analytical skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Domain knowledge: The ability to quickly grasp and model complex, domain-specific concepts.
  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree and/or 5 to 10 years of experience
