About the position

The Data Manager will play a crucial role in managing and analyzing data for the Canine Bladder Cancer Consortium at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. This position requires collaboration across various departments and institutions, serving as a key link among scientists, clinicians, veterinarians, technicians, and dog owners. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong project management skills, and have a background in biomedical sciences or veterinary medicine. The role offers flexibility, including remote and part-time options.

Responsibilities

  • Review clinical records and collaborate with veterinary experts to manage data input.
  • Oversee data cleaning conducted by consortium members and dog owners.
  • Design and conduct quality control reviews of transformed data files prior to analysis.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries to document cleaning and quality control processes; manage future iterations.
  • Handle data requests for studies and publications, acting as an expert intermediary.
  • Manage sample inventory requests and work with external contacts to resolve sample-related issues.
  • Write data descriptions for the Data Commons Platform.
  • Develop and/or review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) around sample and/or data collection, management, and distribution.
  • Develop, promote, collect, and analyze survey results around sample and data interests and needs.
  • Develop social media platforms and coordinate outreach and growth of the community.
  • Collaborate with veterinary scientists to advise on work scope development and fulfill database queries and data requests.
  • Perform literature reviews and assist in manuscript development and publication efforts.
  • Monitor progress reports from academic collaborators utilizing consortium resources.
  • Promote Canine Bladder Cancer Consortium interests, needs, surveys, resources in appropriate forum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field.
  • Two or more years of experience coding in R or another statistical language.
  • Experience with relational databases and developing SQL queries to extract data.
  • Demonstrated interest in life science/veterinary research.
  • Strong motivation for and experience in project management.
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Two or more years of experience in biomedical sciences/veterinary medicine.
