The Data Management Architect Senior plays a critical role in developing, governing, and maintaining the enterprise data architecture to ensure data is reliable, consistent, and trusted across the organization. The role provides advanced expertise in data modeling, metadata and catalog practices, semantic standards, and data lineage documentation. This position works proactively with internal and external data teams, architects, and senior business stakeholders to drive complex data initiatives, establish enterprise data standards, and enhance the organization’s overall data management maturity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from from an accredited college or university in computer information systems, computer science, data management, information systems, information science, or a closely related field.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and additional full-time experience in data modeling or similarly related experience may substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
  • Five (5) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in data modeling, metadata, data governance or related experience.
  • A master's degree or doctoral degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge of:
  • Established data modeling methodologies & standards
  • Metadata, catalog, and lineage frameworks across systems
  • SQL, relational design; distributed data platform familiarity
  • Modern governance incl. business glossary management
  • Agile delivery & cross-team collaboration patterns
  • Skills in:
  • Creating/refining data models across systems
  • Applying metadata standards & semantic tagging at scale
  • Analyzing lineage & data flows for quality/trust
  • Facilitating sessions with stewards/analysts/engineers
  • Driving business glossary adoption & catalog usability
  • Ability to:
  • Translate business requirements into structured models
  • Apply governance & metadata standards across systems
  • Enhance lineage, glossary, and classification
  • Improve discoverability & catalog adoption enterprise-wide
  • Communicate complex concepts to technical & non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Data Modeling, Semantics & AI Enablement
  • Develops conceptual, logical, physical models across domains.
  • Maps transformations & integrations, and drive clarity across systems.
  • Reverse-engineers legacy data structures to modernize, streamline, and rationalize system designs.
  • Uses ER/Studio & model automation to ensure standards and performance.
  • Governs design-to-implementation alignment with engineering.
  • Expands taxonomy and ontology usage across domains.
  • Applies semantic tagging to improve discovery, trust, and reuse.
  • Aligns semantic attributes with lineage & classification rules.
  • Data Governance, Metadata & Catalog Management
  • Maintains and enriches data dictionaries while automating metadata ingestion and scanning processes.
  • Applies lineage and classification standards (Purview/Unity Catalog).
  • Connects catalog to BI and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Expands glossary coverage with stewards.
  • Implements catalog APIs for programmatic queries/updates.
  • Trains users on catalog practices and continuously monitors metadata quality KPIs.
  • Data Strategy & Readiness
  • Translates business needs into structured data designs and metadata deliverables
  • Prioritizes modeling/governance work with product owners.
  • Provides status & risk updates; manage dependencies.
  • Supports business-led analytics and stewardship routines.
  • Team Enablement & Knowledge Transfer
  • Facilitates design/model reviews while maintaining standards and templates.
  • Supports cross-enterprise stewardship and governance routines.
  • Creates training materials and onboarding guides for business users.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
