About The Position

Sweetwater, the nation’s number one online retailer of music instruments and pro audio gear, is seeking to hire an analytical, detailed, and experienced Data Governance Lead to join our growing Data & Analytics team! As the Data Governance Lead, you will be responsible for defining, operationalizing, and scaling data governance practices that enable trusted, secure, and high-quality data across the enterprise— without slowing innovation. In this role, you will partner closely with Analytics Engineering, Data Science, Software Engineering, Security, Legal, and Business Leaders to ensure data is well-governed, well-understood, and responsibly used, especially as data products become more customer-facing and AI-driven. The role frequently interacts with performance marketing, eCommerce and legal & Compliance teams. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or data platforms
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data & Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field
  • Strong understanding of PII & data privacy concepts, Data lifecycle management, and BI and Analytics ecosystems
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, data science, security, and legal/compliance teams
  • Ability to translate policy into practical, usable workflows
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks (preferably Google)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail, eCommerce, or customer data platforms preferred
  • Experience and familiarity with data modeling and Business Intelligence tools
  • Experience governing data for AI/ML use cases preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Defining and evolve the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, and decision rights
  • Establish governance that is practical, scalable, and embedded into delivery workflows
  • Align governance priorities to business outcomes (growth, customer experience, risk reduction)
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve the policies, technical processes, and procedures that enable the company’s enterprise data governance program
  • Act as the technical authority for translating data governance policies and standards into operational workflows, controls, and tooling across the data lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, & IT Security teams to embed regulatory requirements into technical controls, including data minimization, purpose limitation, retention & disposition procedures, and data subject enablement
  • Drive technical enablement for master and reference data management, critical data element identification, and lineage tracing from source to consumption
  • Lead initiatives around Data definitions and business glossary – providing ownership and stewardship models along with Critical data elements
  • Educate teams on Data handling expectations, Governance principles and Responsible AI & analytics use
  • Partner closely with internal technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure data is accurate, trustworthy, well-documented, and protected in accordance with regulatory and business requirements
  • Responsible for defining success metrics for governance effectiveness
  • Regularly review and update policies as data platforms, regulations, and business needs evolve
