About The Position

The Data Governance & Analytics Manager serves as a strategic partner within the Institutional Research office, guiding the stewardship, accuracy, and effective use of institutional data across the university. Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research & Data Governance, the Manager plays a central role in developing and implementing data governance practices, facilitating collaboration among data stewards and campus partners, and ensuring that data is stored, documented, and accessed in ways that support compliance reporting and informed decision‑making. The Manager works closely with stakeholders to clarify dashboard requirements and designs user‑centered, accessible visualizations aligned with institutional priorities. As a connector between technical teams, subject matter experts, and executive decision‑makers, the Data Governance & Analytics Manager helps ensure that institutional data is trusted, consistent, and responsibly leveraged to advance the university’s strategic goals.

  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in data governance, data stewardship, institutional research, or data management within a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data within an organizational and functional context, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and appropriate use across stakeholders.
  • Experience operationalizing data governance practices, including defining data standards, coordinating data stewards, documenting data definitions, and ensuring data quality.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI, with a focus on user experience, clarity, accessibility, and data storytelling rather than complex technical development.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non‑technical audiences, and guide collaborative decision‑making around data.
  • Familiarity with compliance‑related reporting requirements in higher education (e.g., IPEDS, accreditation, state and federal reporting) and the data structures that support them.
  • Experience with content management systems and maintaining data‑focused websites or internal portals.
  • Working knowledge of student information systems (PeopleSoft preferred) and related campus platforms (LMS, CRM, etc.), with the ability to understand how data flows across systems.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL workflows, and data architecture sufficient to collaborate effectively with IT—without being a primary developer.
  • Familiarity with data cataloging and governance platforms (e.g., Data Cookbook) and maintaining metadata that supports institutional consistency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams in data-related initiatives without formal supervisory authority.
  • Skill in translating business or academic questions into clear data requirements, documentation, and dashboard specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data accessibility, equitable representation in dashboards, and user-centered design principles.

  • Dashboard Strategy & Development: Define clear ownership by identifying primary stakeholders and data stewards responsible for maintaining visualizations.
  • Develop and document a standardized process for requesting, prioritizing, and developing new visualizations to ensure alignment, avoid duplication, and promote consistency in data usage.

  • Identify unmet needs, usability issues, and opportunities for consolidation, enhancement, or development to ensure analytics solutions remain relevant and actionable.
  • Design and develop cross-functional and executive-level dashboards.
