About The Position

The Data Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and growing the Data Engineering team, overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines and platforms. This role balances strategic planning with hands-on technical guidance, ensuring that data solutions align with business goals, support analytics initiatives, and empower decision-making across the enterprise. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience, fostering a collaborative environment where engineers thrive and business partners receive timely, high-quality data solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong background in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL and Python (experience with both preferred).
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and enterprise data warehouse concepts.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale customer and inventory datasets, preferably in retail or ecommerce.
  • Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and security best practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex projects while maintaining focus on business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers. Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development to ensure technical excellence and career progression.
  • Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data engineering initiatives in alignment with business objectives. Advocate for modern data technologies and practices to improve scalability, cost efficiency, and automation.
  • Oversee the design and optimization of enterprise-wide data pipelines and platforms to support analytics, reporting, and operational systems.
  • Partner with business leaders, analysts, and data engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions. Ensure alignment between business priorities and data engineering deliverables.
  • Establish and enforce data standards, processes, and governance practices. Proactively monitor and improve data integrity, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Manage workload using tools like Jira, ensuring that projects are estimated accurately, delivered on time, and documented thoroughly.
  • Provide architectural oversight for data systems, encourage innovation, and lead adoption of best practices in cloud platforms, ELT/ETL processes, and real-time data integration.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business units, ensuring seamless communication and delivery of impactful solutions.
