Data Engineer Role Definition: Employs data analytics to assess an organization's technical performance and makes system enhancement recommendations.

Requirements

  • Expertise in ER modeling and tools like ERwin or Power Designer.
  • Strong SQL and database design concepts such as data vault, star schemas, etc.
  • Experience with big data platforms for performance and cost like Snowflake and Cloudera.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Understanding of data governance and metadata standards.
  • Knowledge of value realization methods; ability to plan, execute, watch and manage business activities and resources to find and achieve the actual value from a business initiative as estimated in an associated business case
  • Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language right to the audience.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and the agile development lifecycle; ability to use formal agile methodologies, disciplines, practices and techniques for the delivery of new and enhanced applications.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and services of cloud computing; ability to design, deploy and implement cloud computing solutions in various business environments.
  • Knowledge of database systems; ability to set up a data model for designing an organization's database that runs effectively and efficiently for better business outcome.
  • Knowledge of the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) process; ability to develop a database through the ETL process.
  • Knowledge of an organization's existing and planned Information Architecture and Information Management (IM) method; ability to collect and manage information from different sources and distribute this information to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Knowledge of data, process and events; ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events.

Responsibilities

  • Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support data marts and business data objects.
  • Name relevant data sources and define relationships, dependencies, and mappings.
  • Create reusable schemas for Snowflake data marts, ensuring alignment with business processes.
  • Maintain data dictionaries and metadata to support governance and auditability.
