About The Position

We’re looking for a curious, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Data Engineer to join our Data Systems team. This role is critical to how our customers succeed with Coursedog: you’ll own the technical onboarding experience, partnering directly with higher education institutions to integrate their Student Information System (SIS) data into our platform. As a Data Engineer at Coursedog, you’ll operate at the intersection of data, systems, and people — designing and executing SIS integrations, troubleshooting complex data challenges, and ensuring our customers go live with confidence. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where technical excellence, clear communication, and customer empathy are equally important. This role offers a competitive base salary ranging from $70,000–$90,000, depending on experience. The position includes a performance-based variable compensation plan, bringing the total on-target earnings (OTE) to $75,000–$100,000 when goals are met.

Requirements

  • Data Integration: Experience with integrating data from various sources and ensuring data consistency and accuracy.
  • Process & Tools Used on the Job: Strong experience with API operations, SSO, User Provisioning, Github, Postman Collections.
  • Data Modeling: Ability to understand data models and practically apply this knowledge to customer projects, team playbooks and best practices for resilient service delivery. Specific knowledge in Student Information System (SIS) data structures such as Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Colleague, Workday, Peoplesoft or others.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in object-oriented programming and scripting languages, with a preference for Java, Python and SQL.
  • ETL Processes: Strong understanding of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools.
  • Database Management: Experience working with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL).
  • Troubleshooting: Experience troubleshooting scenarios where data is synchronized across multiple systems, comparing data sets, reviewing logs, identifying and resolving issues.
  • Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
  • Statistical Analysis: Knowledge of statistical methods and tools for data analysis.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data handling and analysis.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Project Management: Understand and actively engage in ensuring the impact data engineers have in on-time, quality delivery of customer projects from inception to completion.
  • Documentation: Updating customer implementation documentation, methodology playbooks used for deployment steps and issue resolution steps
  • Customer Centric Knowledge: Our customers are educational institutions, everyone in our company needs to be able to understand how our customers operate to be able to understand how our work impacts and delivers value.

Responsibilities

  • Run partner and client-facing conversations about technical integrations.
  • Call external APIs to perform data review, examine data structures for potential issues and manipulate CSV and JSON Data.
  • Work directly with clients to improve their experience and turn insights into actionable product feedback.
  • Be responsible for user acceptance testing
  • Own all aspects of the client's technical onboarding experience from point of sales handoff through to maintenance.
  • Define new SIS integration architecture and methodologies
  • Work with our Data Engineering Manager to improve our system integrations and own our go-lives.
  • Develop deep product knowledge; provide API integration expertise; understand the ins and outs of Higher Education; strong customer service skills; QA mindset; strong technical and oral communication
  • Data quality/product improvements, improve time to integration, drive customer experience, raise NPS scores, improve our internal toolset
