About The Position

Edgestream is seeking a Data Engineer to build, scale and support our core data infrastructure used in both live trading and research. This role is ideal for an early to mid-career engineer with strong Python skills, a solid technical foundation, attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems independently. You will work closely with senior data engineers, data scientists, and researchers, gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of financial data—from ingestion and validation to research and live trading systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with libraries such as Pandas, Polars and NumPy.
  • A passion for AI and a demonstrated drive to leverage it for transforming and automating data workflows.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving ability and willingness to take ownership of tasks and follow them through to completion.
  • Familiarity with data processing concepts such as ETL, data validation, and schema management.
  • experience with all of the following:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to learn new tools, systems, and domains.
  • No prior experience in finance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance ETL pipelines that handle critical financial market data for both real-time trading and research.
  • Drive automation of data operational workflows and exception handling, leveraging AI tools.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based data tools to maximize productivity and turnaround time for research and reporting stakeholders.
  • Monitor data pipelines diagnosing and resolving data quality or operational issues.
  • Facilitate the onboarding of new data sources for both historical research and real-time trading systems.
  • Execute exploratory and validation analyses to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of our internal monitoring, logging, and reporting tools.
  • Work in a Linux-based, distributed computing environment.
  • Collaborate closely with senior data engineers, data scientists, portfolio managers, researchers, and trading operations staff.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, or clarity within existing systems.
