Amazon.com Services LLC is seeking a Data Engineer III to join our team in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, documenting, and operating large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for business intelligence analytics. This role involves implementing data structures using best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL, Oracle, and OLAP technologies. The Data Engineer will provide on-line reporting and analysis using OBIEE business intelligence tools and a logical abstraction layer against large, multi-dimensional datasets and multiple sources. The candidate will gather business and functional requirements and translate these into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture. Additionally, the role includes analyzing source data systems, participating in the full development life cycle, producing comprehensive dataset documentation, and mentoring junior data engineers.

  • Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics.
  • Implement data structures using best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL, Oracle, and OLAP technologies.
  • Provide on-line reporting and analysis using OBIEE business intelligence tools.
  • Gather business and functional requirements and translate these into robust, scalable solutions.
  • Analyze source data systems and drive best practices in source teams.
  • Participate in the full development life cycle from design to maintenance.
  • Produce comprehensive dataset documentation and metadata.
  • Evaluate dataset implementations proposed by peer data engineers.
  • Mentor junior data engineers.
  • Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field and three years of experience in the job offered, or as an Operations Research Analyst, Database Developer, or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in the same fields and seven years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience.
  • One year of experience in developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics using ETL/ELT processes, OLAP technologies, data modeling, SQL, and Oracle.
