About The Position

Virginia Farm Bureau is seeking a data-driven individual for our Data Engineer l position. The Data Engineer l designs, evaluates, and tests data infrastructures. This position works within the Data Services group providing on-going development of an enterprise data warehouse, data integration and brokering between operational and reporting systems, and ensuring data integrity and appropriate financial controls. Involved in various aspects and wide spectrum of activities around data integration, database management, business intelligence, data analytics, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating data
  • Basic programming skills in Python (or similar language)
  • Understanding of data modeling and relational databases
  • Familiarity with ETL concepts and data pipeline workflows
  • Experience with databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Basic use of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies

Responsibilities

  • Builds systems and infrastructures that collect and process data according to company needs and goals.
  • Builds, evolves and scales out infrastructure to ingest, process, and extract meaning out data. Designs, develops and implements statistical models to carry out various novel aspects of classification and information extraction from data.
  • Leverages existing data infrastructure to fulfill all data-related requests, perform necessary data housekeeping, data cleansing, normalization, hashing, and implementation of required data model changes.
  • Analyzes data to spot anomalies, trends and correlate similar data sets.
  • Supports the delivery of business intelligence by producing data extracts, reports, and dashboards that enable decision-making across the organization.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and ensures timely, accurate, and actionable data delivery.
