The Foundational People Data Services team at Amazon is seeking an exceptional Data Engineer to join our data team. Our data platform delivers business intelligence to a diverse, global community of internal customers, drawing from one of the world's largest and most complex data sets. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing data solutions using Amazon's cloud technologies. The ideal candidate excels at working with AWS ETL tools and is comfortable accessing and manipulating big data from multiple sources. You should passionately partner with business teams to identify strategic opportunities and deliver results. We're looking for someone with a strong drive to answer 'why?' questions, excellent analytical abilities, and strong technical skills. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. We're seeking a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big while paying careful attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Requirements

  • 1+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with one or more query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)
  • Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
  • Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions with a flexible and adaptable data architecture.
  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of next generation data solutions from the ground up.
  • Manage AWS resources including S3, Athena, Batch, lambda etc.
  • Optimize automated processes for performance and fault tolerance.
  • Optimize support for ad-hoc analysis across various data sources.
  • Collaborate with BI Engineers, Software Engineers, and cross-functionally to deliver high quality data architecture and pipelines.
  • Make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable and usable by applications and teams.
