About The Position

As a Data Developer Intern at Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, you will work under the guidance of our Data Strategy Team to support both day-to-day data operations and the development of Gateway 3.0 — our agency-wide data infrastructure modernization initiative aimed at unifying client data across programs to enable seamless, coordinated service delivery. This internship offers hands-on experience in database development, data analysis, and systems integration, contributing directly to the agency's mission while building practical skills for your career.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a college program with a focus on data science, computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience or coursework in backend database development and design
  • Familiarity with web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or interest in data warehousing and cloud platforms (AWS a plus)
  • Experience with data analysis and data visualization tools (Power BI a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in schema design and documentation for the agency's unified PostgreSQL data warehouse
  • Support user acceptance testing and contribute to test plan development for database enhancements
  • Build and maintain back-end data tables and interfaces using Caspio and PostgreSQL
  • Assist in developing and maintaining front-end data collection processes using tools like FormAssembly and Caspio
  • Build custom forms and interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Analyze data using Python and contribute to data pipeline development
  • Create and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize program and operational data
  • Support data integration projects, including API testing and backend data connections
  • Work within AWS cloud infrastructure as part of the Gateway 3.0 development environment
  • Participate in team meetings, sprint planning, and project documentation
  • Stay open to learning new tools, technical skills, and processes as required
