The Data Destruction Technician plays a critical role within PlanITROI’s ITAD Operations team and is responsible for the secure, compliant, and documented sanitization and destruction of client data-bearing assets. This position supports the full data lifecycle process through certified data erasure, physical destruction when required, asset grading, ERP documentation, and proper downstream disposition. This role requires a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and security discipline to ensure client data is protected and operational standards are consistently met. This is a full-time, onsite temporary-to-permanent position, with eligibility for permanent employment consideration after a 90-day evaluation period.

Requirements

  • Degree in Information Technology, Technology Program Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Experience troubleshooting laptops, desktops, or mobile devices.
  • Previous experience in ITAD, reverse logistics, electronics refurbishment, or warehouse production environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data security accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team-based production environment.
  • Ability to follow standardized processes consistently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a production environment.
  • Regular lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with certified data sanitization tools or erasure software.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-grade hardware, including servers, networking equipment, and storage systems desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform certified data erasure using approved erasure software in accordance with client commitments and compliance standards.
  • Physically destroy data-bearing components (HDDs, SSDs, and flash media) through approved shredding or destruction processes when required.
  • Monitor erasure software dashboards to ensure successful completion, validation, and exception management.
  • Image devices as required to support redeployment or resale channels.
  • Maintain full chain-of-custody accountability throughout the data destruction process.
  • Conduct physical inspection and grading of laptops, desktops, tablets, mobile devices, servers, storage arrays, and networking equipment.
  • Determine appropriate downstream routing, including redeploy, refurbish, harvest, recycle, or destroy.
  • Identify and escalate non-conforming assets or potential data security risks.
  • Accurately record asset condition, serial numbers, erasure results, and disposition codes within PlanITROI’s ERP system.
  • Maintain detailed audit trails supporting client reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Adhere to all internal Quality Control, Information Security, and safety standards.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance productivity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Audit, Refurbishment, and Quality Control teams to maintain operational flow.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational excellence.
