About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting the enterprise wide data center infrastructure across Health system. The individual technician's functions will include maintaining an operational overview of the key data centers, MDF, and IDF infrastructure, complete data center support requests, address production issues, be responsible for quality and consistency of deploying new equipment, decommission obsolete gear, and move existing compute components as needed. The Data Center Technician 2 performs all duties in a manner that promotes organization mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization. This role is responsible for supporting all data center facilities, coordination and delivery of detailed customer requests, and 24x7 response to critical infrastructure / facility alerts. The Data Center Technician 2 provides first-level support to ensure the integrity, stability and efficiency of technical systems with our data centers and/or to provide a high level of technical support services. This position is responsible for tracking, monitoring, and resolving issues as they arise, escalating issues where appropriate, and reports to a Supervisor or Manager within the IT department. The role works within established procedures, under a moderate degree of autonomy, but adheres to the priority of the DC OPs management structure overall. The Data Center Technician 2 infrastructure services in multiple locations and regions (according to the current IT business need). Special emphasis is placed on production systems, major production incidents, emergencies, and regional and/or enterprise projects. Essential Functions: • As a member of the IS Operations team, participates fully in the resolution of issues and incidents both within and outside the scope of Data Center Operations. • Installs, maintains, and recommends improvement to enterprise-class structured cabling and equipment racking, insuring that they are available 24x7x365 without interruption. • Participates, as needed, in critical incident resolution, on-call rotation, carries a cell phone, and ensures availability during specified hours of coverage. • Provides hardware verification, reporting, and audits through DCIM tools and will look to future technologies for continual process improvement. • Responsible for capacity management, which will include tracking and planning to support current and forecasted enterprise deployments. • Supports the continuous improvement cycle using approved Site Ops & Eng principals. • Support and communicate customer requests through established ticketing and workflow systems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of Data Center air flow, mechanical and electrical systems used in conditioned space environments including: generators, UPS systems, PDU/ATS units, chillers, air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • Expertise of IT infrastructure operations and understanding of component parts including: wide and local area networking, fiber and copper cabling, cable management, servers, blade chassis, storage, and backups.
  • Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on systems installed in a conditioned space environment.
  • Expertise of environment and infrastructure management software.
  • Ability to work effectively to build relationships with business and/or clinical management, peers, and technology staff.
  • Learning - Can quickly learn new information as needed, whether it is knowledge required for solving a problem, or simply a new skill.
  • Ability to provide detailed informational reports.
  • Proven ability to organize multiple projects, schedules, and meet shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills - oral, written and presentation.
  • BICSI, NEC, OSHA, A Plus, Cable plant infrastructure certifications, Cable plant testing certification.
