About The Position

As a Data Center Technician supporting our Ashburn-area operations, you will be the boots-on-the-ground presence ensuring our physical infrastructure stays healthy, up-to-date, and running smoothly. This is a part-time, primarily remote role, with regular on-site presence in the Ashburn, VA area when hands-on work is needed. Beyond routine maintenance, we'd love for you to bring scripting and automation skills to the table. If you can help automate firmware updates, standardize configuration management, and reduce the manual toil that comes with managing hardware at scale, you'll fit right in.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a colocation or carrier-neutral data center environment
  • Experience working with 3rd party support personnel from vendors
  • Strong hands-on skills with physical server and networking hardware
  • Structured and detail-oriented approach to documentation and asset management
  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule
  • Located in or able to commute to the Ashburn, VA / Washington, DC area for on-site work
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Passport and ability to travel to Europe, Canada and South America to perform on-site maintenance and participate in work with our Europe-based team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scripting in Python or a similar language for operational automation
  • Familiarity with firmware management tools and configuration management frameworks like Ansible, Puppet, or similar
  • Experience with IPMI, iDRAC, iLO, or similar out-of-band management interfaces
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments
  • Site Reliability Engineering or similar experience
  • As with all roles on our team, the ability to work independently, document your work clearly, and flag issues proactively is just as important as technical skill.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day monitoring and maintenance of data center hardware and infrastructure
  • Physical hardware troubleshooting, replacement, and upkeep during on-site visits
  • Firmware updates and patch management across servers and network equipment
  • Scripting and automation to streamline repetitive operational tasks
  • Configuration management of hardware and network devices
  • Maintaining accurate records of equipment status, changes, and procedures
  • Contributing to operational improvements and standardization efforts
