About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Cable Technician / Data Center Technician for a contract‑to‑hire opportunity supporting data center and structured cabling operations in Fort Wayne, IN. This is a hands‑on, physically demanding role in an active data center environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months of data center or structured cabling experience, a strong work ethic, and the ability to perform detailed technical work safely and efficiently. This position offers the opportunity to convert to a full‑time role based on performance and business need.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in a data center or structured cabling environment
  • Experience with copper and fiber cabling installations
  • Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools
  • Familiarity with wiring schemes and cable testing
  • Ability to perform terminations, splicing, and labeling
  • Experience working in data centers and/or construction sites
  • Understanding of customer service expectations
  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans and cable documentation
  • Strong work ethic with attention to detail
  • Clear understanding of job safety requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Additional data center experience beyond the minimum requirement
  • Experience installing ladder racking and seismic bracing
  • Experience with live network service swaps and decommissioning
  • Familiarity with FIM databases
  • Advanced copper and fiber troubleshooting experience

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, and secure low‑voltage cabling including coax, Cat5, Cat6, and fiber
  • Pull all types of low‑voltage cable in overhead and raised‑floor environments
  • Perform field terminations, labeling, and dressing of copper and fiber cabling
  • Assemble and install server cabinets, ladder racking, and seismic bracing (above and below raised floors)
  • Layout and maintain MDF and IDF closets
  • Dress and furcate fiber trunks for splicing
  • Perform fusion splicing (Ribbon / Single / OSP / ISP)
  • Install, connect, decommission, and perform service swaps on live networking equipment
  • Conduct copper and fiber testing and troubleshooting
  • Operate DSX‑5000 testers and OTDR testers; program testing equipment
  • Download, save, verify, and submit test results using LinkWare / LinkWare Live
  • Create and apply mass labels per port maps
  • Identify and differentiate live versus decommissioned cables
  • Read and understand floor plans, blueprints, and design documentation
  • Maintain accurate, organized paperwork and service documentation
  • Follow all job‑site safety requirements and customer service standards
