About The Position

The main function of a Data Center Technician is to monitor software to process business, scientific, engineering, and other data according to operating instructions. This role involves preparing, staging, setting up, and performing startups and shutdowns of equipment such as racks, hard drives, and switches according to specific instructions, checklists, guides, standard protocols, and emails. The technician will perform post-execution quality checks and verify that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs). Additionally, the technician will perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifying the cause(s) of issues and replacing faulty components. The role also includes decommissioning hardware for simple changes and refreshes, following standard procedures with minimal guidance, and communicating, reporting, and escalating incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components
  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
  • Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Previous datacenter experience
  • Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training
  • 2-4 years experience in a related field

  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the system for equipment failure or errors in performance
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems or terminating the program
  • Help programmers and systems analysts test and debug new programs
  • Operate spreadsheet programs and other types of software to load and manipulate data and to produce reports
