About The Position

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality installation of server hardware and components and take charge of complicated installations/troubleshooting. Your team will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). They will also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. They may lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. In this role, you will be key to the success of the data center, proactively monitoring performance, anticipating potential issues, and collaborating closely with the area lead, site manager, peer Operations Managers (OMs), and partnering teams like Data Center Operations (DCOps), Security, and Logistics to ensure optimal operational efficiency. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, contract management, or delivery teams.
Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure, network, compute architecture, life-cycle, and Linux/Unix system administration.
Experience with developing network architecture.
Experience leading and managing projects from initiation to completion and directing operations management initiatives.
Experience with initiating and executing initiatives in a global environment.
Ability to lead and improve Environmental Health and Safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

Oversee the management of teams within data center operations.
Work together to identify and resolve problems and create solutions for the global computing and network architecture.
Manage the implementation of projects within the team and effectively communicate business priorities and facilitate operations to following shift leads.
Hire, coach and develop a team while achieving business goals and demonstrate the ability to implement and drive the safety culture at the site, while fostering a collaborative team environment.
Ensure data center related priorities are consistent with company objectives.
