With unmatched scale, innovation and expertise, Prologis is a category of one—not just shaping the future of logistics but building what comes next. Prologis is seeking a Category Manager, Substation Equipment to lead strategic sourcing, supplier management, and commercial execution for high-voltage and medium-voltage substation equipment supporting large-scale data center development. This role is critical to enabling power availability, schedule certainty, and scalable growth across powered shell and turnkey data center programs. You will own the end-to-end substation equipment category, partnering closely with Power Procurement and Engineering, Development, and EPCs, to source long-lead electrical equipment in one of the most supply-constrained markets in infrastructure today. This role is ideal for a sourcing or category professional with deep experience in HV/MV electrical equipment, OEM-driven supply chains, and capital project delivery.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in category management, strategic sourcing, or procurement within electrical infrastructure, power delivery, utilities, data centers, or energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing HV/MV substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, breakers, protection & controls).
  • Strong understanding of OEM-driven supply chains, long-lead manufacturing cycles, and capital project procurement.
  • Proven negotiation and contracting experience for complex, high-value equipment packages.
  • Ability to operate effectively in cross-functional, technically complex environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel (analysis, modeling) and PowerPoint (executive communication).
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment and work across U.S. time zones.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Data center power delivery experience (powered shell, hyperscale, or large campus environments).
  • Experience interfacing with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and utility-driven technical standards.
  • Familiarity with EPC delivery models and substation commissioning workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (technical background strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Category ownership – Substation & Grid-Interface Equipment
  • Own US category strategy for substation and grid-interconnection equipment, including: Power transformers (step-up / step-down, GSU, auxiliary transformers) HV/MV switchgear & breakers (AIS/GIS, dead tank/live tank breakers) Protection & control systems (relays, panels, SCADA interfaces) Bus structures, disconnects, reactors, grounding systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Develop and maintain multi-year category strategies aligned to Prologis’ data center growth pipeline, power delivery schedules, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Analyze supplier capacity, manufacturing constraints, lead times, regional availability, and geopolitical risk to inform sourcing decisions and investment strategies.
  • Strategic sourcing & contracting
  • Lead RFXs for substation equipment packages; conduct bid leveling, commercial analysis, and negotiations.
  • Structure and negotiate master supply agreements, pricing frameworks, capacity reservations, and escalation/de-escalation mechanisms.
  • Partner with Legal and Engineering to ensure contracts address technical risk, quality requirements, warranties, FAT/SAT, LDs, and schedule protection.
  • Long-lead procurement & delivery execution
  • Own procurement execution for substation equipment across projects: Manufacturing slot allocation Submittal and drawing cycle governance Factory acceptance testing (FAT) coordination Logistics planning and delivery sequencing
  • Act as the commercial escalation point for supplier delays, quality issues, or capacity shortfalls—driving mitigation strategies such as alternate sourcing, resequencing, or scope packaging.
  • Supplier relationship & performance management
  • Build strategic partnerships with key OEMs and fabricators; lead supplier performance management through KPIs, scorecards, and QBRs.
  • Drive continuous improvement around lead times, quality, responsiveness, and cost transparency.
  • Monitor supplier financial health, backlog exposure, and market dynamics to proactively manage risk.
  • Cross-functional leadership
  • Serve as the commercial counterpart to substation and power engineering teams, aligning technical requirements with sourcing and market realities.
  • Collaborate with EPCs and utilities to align procurement strategy with construction sequencing and energization milestones.
  • Provide executive-ready reporting on category risk, supply constraints, and procurement status.
